The dealer wants over $4000 to replace the ECU but isn't sure that it will even solve the non-starting problem. On Ebay there are lots for sale for far less but I read somewhere that the ECUs are VIN encoded and even the dealer can't change that. Is this true? How can a home mechanic changed the VIN number in an ECU pulled out of a wrecked B200?
