Does MB consider North Americans dumber than New Zelanders? Apparently C250 comes there with a 2.143-litre 4-cylinder while the model sold here as 1.8 C250 goes over there under the proper name of C180. Can anyone make sense out of this? (Sorry I am just too dumb to understand...)

2.143 L is the c250 CDI ( diesel engine)
i think all c250 ( petrol) are powered by 1.8L turbo engine.

We're badge-****** here
The previous C230 was actually a 1.8L supercharged as well.
Even the new S550 is a 4.6L V8, badged 'wrong'

Yeah, seriously. Get over it and find bigger problems to worry about. Why not call it C1796 since that is the exact displacement.

Another PSA: BMW 335i/535i doesn't have a 3.5-liter engine either.

The class it more from the torque / HP the engines generate more than the capacity in cc. Marketing gimmicks..
But it's quite comfortable to know when you are paying your C250 road taxes for the same amount as a C180..

Here in Australia the petrol CGI variants of the C Class 1.8ltr IL4 are called both C180 and C250 depending on their state of tune, the lower power model is C180 and the higher power model is C250

The 2.1ltr CDI variant C Class is called a C250 here as well but unlike the petrol variants it also wears the CDI badge whereas the petrols don't have the CGI badge anymore.

Yep, you hit the nail on the head. So many manufacturers have their badging out of whack!

2011 C180 1.8T (155HP) is a year before 2012 C250's 1.8T (203HP)...I guess they just increase the HP to 200 and make it a C250.

I think 2012 C250 CGI is all 1.8L T in NZ as well. Only C250 CDI is 2.1L T-Diesel.

Yes, all 2012 C Class C180 and C250CGI's are 1.8ltr IL4T petrol engine, and all 2012 C Class C220 and C250 CDI's are the 2.1ltr IL4TT diesel engine with different states of tune of course
