2012 C250 Coupe Problems / Recall?

Hi all. Just joined and this is my first post. I leased a 2012 c250 coupe in mid October. In January my low oil / low coolant / adaptive high beam inoperative and ESP inoperative lights came on over the course of several days. I also noticed a squeaking/grinding from the driver side rear wheel. 10 days in service and was told "steering column" needed to be replaced to solve warning lights. They also replaced "parking brake pins" to solve grinding sound. (side note: they said MB is aware of grinding sound and issued a service note to dealers regarding faulty pins. Service note = unofficial recall?) I got car back, 5 days later while accelerating I lost all power. NOT a stall, not revving. Just as if I took foot off gas even though it was to the floor. From that point it entered "limp mode" which feels like car is always in 5th gear, and engine light came on. Car was flat bedded to dealer. They now tell me it's the fuel pump and the part is back ordered for 20 days. (side note: the dealer said "you shouldn't accelerate so hard". Umm. So I have to be gentle with a new Mercedes or it will break?) anyone else having issues? Questions comments? I'd like there to be a central thread for all to post so we can monitor if this is a fluke or an overall issue with this new model.

When they called to tell me it would be 20 days until part arrives, they also told me to come in and swap the 2011 C300 loaner for a 2011 E350 Although I'd truly prefer not having my car in service for a month, they def quietted me down for a minute!

Interesting first post. Seems your dealer is doing its best to taking care of you and your car -- May you share the name of the dealer with us?

Regards,

I would get the car's cosmetic condition documented in writing with photos NOW before it comes back in 3 weeks with shop crud on it. It happens. The next repair should activate the replacement procedure.

Thanks for the replies so far. I hope this can be a place for others to share any problems with this model (hopefully ill be the only one!). Just like to add that I've heard chatter of there being an issue surrounding the 250's specifically, due to the new direct injection 4 cylinder, including its fuel pump. Forget fuel economy, get the 6 cylinder!

Too late I think. The 350 V6 is Direct Injected in the 2012 E-Class cars that I have seen on the lot in Tyler. Our 2012 GLK 350 4matic has the OLD engine. I think I'm glad.

Thanks,
Whats the deal with dropping names of dealers etc on here? Thought I read a post or 2 implying that was a nono? The dealer is in northern NJ. No update at all. Part is scheduled to arrive on Feb 17th (a friday) so I would anticipate getting the car back Feb 20th or 21st. I saw another thread about the brake noise.. I want to reiterate that at this dealers service dept, they told me this is a KNOWN issue caused by faulty parking brake pins and about 2 weeks ago MB corporate issued a service note regarding it. I interpret that as basically every C coupe produced until recently has this fault. Since there's no safety concern, there's no obligation to reach out to owners (on their dime) BUT, if you bring the issue to them, the know what it is and will rectify it. So far no other posts so maybe I just have a lemon...

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for your first post.

If your dealer is doing a good job taking care of you and your car as you described, what would be the holdback of sharing its name with us?

I am sure other fellow forums in your area would love to know which local dealer is good, so they would know where to take their cars for services if needed.

Yes, I heard chatters about the roughness and noise of these new DI engines as well. Someone posted that these are the usual characteristics of DI engines.

i also read about the potential issue of dirty valves but since these MB engines are relatively new, no one has reported on this.

So far I did not see any compaints on real mechanical issues.

Yes, you are right. Yours is the 1st one that I came across. These are new engines so we have to wait.

While I DO think having a 3 month old car in service for 20-30 days warrants a little more attention than Ive received (Had to call service dept repeatedly for THREE days after it was towed in before I FINALLY got a call back), overall its a good dealership. I haven't spoken to the GM about this particular issue yet, but he has always been exceptionally accommodating and attentive in the past (Family has purchased several cars) and I'm confident the same will be true in this case.

i've experienced something like this before but with a GL450. It wasn't long before it was considered a lemon car, my dealership bought it back after we used it for about 2 months.

If I were you, I would just contact MBUSA straight away. Tell them that you want someone from corporate to take a look at it. Tell them that you were told that the problem was fixed, and then you lost all power and it was dangerous at highway speeds. Tell them that you don't feel safe taking it back unless you can be GUARANTEED nothing unsafe will happen - otherwise you will hold them liable for any damages. This will make sure a proper technician will go over it with a fine tooth comb...

Thanks,

Please pardon me, and once again welcome to the forum.

Hope the fuel pump issue will be resolved quickly, and please keep us posted as it is one of the very first cases we have heard.

With best regards,

C250 owner here as well, had it for about 2 months, about 3K on the odometer.

So far so good, no major problem. Only minor issues I've noticed so far are squeaking noise coming some where from the bottom of the passenger seat, quite annoying. And the red light for the driver side mirror control button would lit up when i reverse (not sure if this is intended or not).

My wheels/brakes also make that grinding noise when the car is cold, but it goes away after a while.

Other then that, love the car, feels great every time I walk toward it in the parking lot.

I had the same problem as the OP yesterday and had my car taken into MB today. Was this problem covered by the warranty? Good luck with your car

I too have my C250C since Mid-October, and as a matter a fact Today I needed oil, and last week I filled my washer fluid.
The Mechanic also informed me that my power steering fluid was unusually low for a 2012 car from october...
I am also hearing a "squeaking" from the front left wheel...this car is starting to worry me..

If you've programmed your passenger side mirror to let you see the curb and your tire when you shift to reverse then that might explain why the light comes on. Hopefully, that's the case.

I'm wondering if your car was in an "accident" in the dealer lot before it was sold to you. It would explain why so many different parts in the front end are failing...

I had an issue with my c250 where it was pulling right on highway speeds. Turns out alignment was off and dealer had to install an alignment kit (camber or caster screws, forgot the name) on passenger side. I'm GUESSING someone curbed it before it was sold to me because no way Mercedes factory let this pass their QC. And no I didn't curb it myself.
