Powder coated wheels
Had my wheels powder coated as well as the outer rims polished. The project is incomplete as I am awaiting painted black center caps. Used 90% gloss on OEM 18" AMG 5-spokes. What a time consuming process.

Ryan, it should be permanent--for at least as long as I have the car which is 36 mo. or if I curb above the polished lip. It's bascially paint that has been baked in. I also did a thin (1/2") polished rim to minimize curb rash on the black paint. Living in San Francisco I am bound to curb the wheels. I recently curbed my Cayenne 21" OEMs and it killed me because I was trying to be so good...but, alas it did last.

Personally not my cup of tea... I like the stock look of the polished ///AMG rims better. But to each's own.
Just some food for thought, why not plasti-dip the rims in black and follow up with plasti-dip glossifier. This way you get gloss-black rims and it is not permanent, you can peel it off if you don't like it.
The above alternative would definitely not affect resale value of the car or impact sale ability, and would certainly be lease-friendly.
Also to mention is that plasti-dip is now offered in a variety of colors, black, white, yellow, red, green, etc. The list grows everyday and is very simple for even a DIY job with someone who has never painted before. The best part is, that even if you mess up, you simply peel it off and try again. It is very cheap too!

jctevere, thanks for the tip. I would have considered it as it probably less of a hassle than the multi-step process I underwent. Nonetheless, the powdercoating was approved by the dealer in writing without any penalty.
