Ambient 'puddle' lighting

Does it annoy anyone else that the ambient puddle lights located at the base of the side mirrors are not LED? It looks very poor when in comparison to the LED lights everywhere else, especially when locking the door and everything lights up at once.

Is anyone aware of solutions? Ie bulbs that can be changed out to fix this and replacement bulbs?

Hello DL250 you learn something new everyday - I did not know they were not LED's

I'm sure they could be swapped out with LED's, there's LED's to replace just about every type of automotive incandescent bulb these days.

A little brighter would be nice though, the OEM ones are a little faint but seem to do a good job if the surrounding area is pitch dark

My repair shop guy did it for me, replace with a T10 LED. You got to remove the mirror, then after the side cover & bottom cover. After which the stock bulb cover is expose then remove the stock bulb will do.

Well at least the T10 bulb replacement is an easy and inexpensive start, I have used T10 LED's in the parkers of my Mazda 3 headlights, they only cost 1 dollar each.

We'll have to find a tech manual or description of the procedure to do this one

It's not LED because incandescent bulbs have more spread to them. Less focused of a beam, but greater coverage.

Nah is not that difficult, once the mirror is out removing the side casing is quite easy (twist upwards).

I think the most complicated is to removing the front panel map light!! I have replaced all the interior light to LED except the front map light!! Anyone can shed some tips & tricks here?

That's a good point, maybe just get brighter standard T10's.

The ones I mentioned earlier (LED T10) are a narrow beam LED, but they are also quite bright, they probably wouldn't provide enough spread as you say.

Good point, I didn't think of it like that.
Will have to do some research around bulb types now

So then, bulb type aside is someone (blackmercs perhaps) able to do a detailed 'how to' description on this topic TIA.

Here in Australia, it's part of the 'Vision Package' of optional extras.

AFAIK all cars have the same wiring looms throughout the model range/s and the optional extras are added as required.

That said, I can't be absolutely sure though if it's the case with MB's and it would also be a task to source and fit the mirror assemblies given the wiring is there.

Hopefully a dealer can assist

Interesting, I have a Canadian 2012 C350 4M and don't have the puddle lighting, the 'Vision Package' wasn't a CDN option I don't think.

I do have the caps located under the mirror checked today, wondering if it's as simple as connecting a bulb or more complicated than that?

Two

Actually I may have made an error above, I think the puddle lighting is part of the 'Comfort Access' package - just been going through reading some of the literature on my cars specs and I think that's the package that includes the puddle lights in the mirror bases.

Apologies if I'm on the wrong track, maybe someone else can confirm it.

As for doing the whole light swap/mirror assembly install thing, we need to get someone who knows to do a 'how to' or maybe search/source some tech info on the topic on the net
