Unhappy What am I doing wrong???

I have my iPhone 5, both types of 30:8 pin adapters, and when I connect the iPhone I can operate via steering wheel controls for about a minute - at which time, the sound stops and the unit is no longer responsive! I replaced the adapter, same stuff!!! I have command nav with the ipod integration kit, a Scosche adapter to allow charging, an extension cable to reach the center console... when I first connected yesterday, it worked like a charm, through this morning... this afternoon, it all went to hell!!! HELP!!!!

I'm using an iPhone 5 with the MB 30pin/female headphone jack connector (under armrest) and an Apple 30pin-to-Lightning cable and have been enjoying flawless access until iOS 8.1

Up until 8.1 (8.0.1 & 8.0.2 worked) I was able to select playlists, albums, artists, etc. with the knob or the track selectors next to the volume control and on the steering wheel control (albeit fairly retarded). Artist artwork would also show up on my screen (7in screen). It also keeps the phone charged.

With iOS8.1 I lost all control. Wouldn't recognize iphone at all. I finally gave in and "reset all settings" on my iphone and now it works, but I've lost track control. I cannot skip forward or back, however I can fast-forward or rewind within the current track. It still charges the phone. Weird.

I may try with another iphone 5 running 8.0.1 just to be sure, but I believe the 8.1 firmware broke the connection. Also, I may try with the newer Mercedes Lightning adapter (that doesn't use the Apple 30pin converter cable).

I'll post back results, but if anyone is having similar trouble, it would be good to know. Also, no trouble with bluetooth, it works fine for music and phone, but you lose the ability to select playlists, artists, etc.

Just returned from the dealership where I tried the newer lightning cable.... no difference.

Just for kicks we tried the service manager's iPhone 5 running 8.1. His phone worked without a hitch (on both cables). Apparently some phones upgraded to 8.1 with the connection problem and some without.

Off to reinstall my phone

A reinstallation fix the problem entirely.

Connected iphone to computer. Backed it up. Hit the restore button. It then downloaded iOS 8.1 (again). After install I "restored" my last backup. Lastly, I synced all my content. Everything on my phone is right where I left it, but fresher now

The process was long (4+ hours), but mostly click-n-godosomethingelse activity.

Hope this helps anyone else with them same problem (maybe I'm the only one )

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Damn, the problem is back. So it looks like this latest firmware (8.1) has bugs and we've only to wait them out

Although the problem of not being able to change tracks did come back, it does seem to go away for a while after rebooting the phone.
