Service A Complete
Hey Guys,
Just hit 10000 miles and the Service A Due message. Decided to do it all myself. After all, it's mostly a glorified oil change anyways isn't it?
Bought the oil, bought the oil filter from the dealer and changed the oil myself. I will have to say that it was one of the easiest oil changes I've ever done. Used the Mightyvac 7201 as recommended by fellow forum readers and voila. Service A complete. Don't be afraid to do it. Save a couple of hundred dollars. Service B I may take in unless I figure out how to do the Brake Fluid change my self. I have a year to think about it.
Mightyvac is awesome. Thought there would be oil left in the pan, but the darn thing sucked out more than the 5.8 quarts that's supposed to be in there. It got it all out. I was impressed needless to say.
If you're thinking about doing the oil change and you're halfway mechanical, do it. Don't hesitate.

Just curious, how much did all the parts cost?
I actually pre-paid for the maintenance and it only cost me an extra $13/month on my 36 month lease (15k miles/year) so I'm covered for 4 services at $468 total. With the discount on pre-paid maintenance, is it still worth it to do it yourself?

I used to do the service myself on my C300 4matic. It required nearly 9 quarts of Mobi 0w-40 synthetic oil and the fleece Mann oil filter. Those parts cost roughly $80 (unless you got a good deal) + the cost of the mityvac (spread over however many oil changes you perform with it).
Since the C250 is a 4-cylinder and requires less oil, it might be more cost-effective to do it yourself. These cars are indeed VERY easy to perform oil changes yourself with a fluid evacuator. However, now that they offer pre-paid maintenance, its not worth it for me to perform DIY. It only added $9/month on my lease and I am covered for the first 3 services.
Considering that Service A at my local dealers are priced at $375 ($200+ on a good sale) - its a GREAT value to get the pre-paid plan.

2. 6 quarts 0w-30 Mobil One (Merc approved) from O'Reillys on sale 36.00 w/tax.
3. Genuine Mercedes oil filter at 21.00 w/tax.
4. Everything else on the service A was a look see and because I garage it all the time, things like windshield wipers, etc are still good to go.
Total: $132.00 with the Mighty vac. Next oil change will only be about 60 bucks.
Got by cheap don't you think?

Anyway, my question is how do you save more than $120 which is usual cost for this service? How much would your dealer charge for this job in Oakland?
