Long story short: If you had your previous iPhone profile stored in bluetooth, delete it. Sometimes when you restore your iPhone 5 as a backup of your earlier device, the MB unit doesn't recognize the new compatibility. So delete the MB Comand profile and search for the new iPhone and start new.
Secondly, after you connect, click on the arrow next to the MB linkage on the bluetooth settings on your iPhone. You should then see an on/off toggle for notifications (I'm actually not 100% sure it says notifications, but something to that effect).
After enabling it, wait a minute or two and then you will be able to see text messages via your comand. However, please note that it will only display text messages you receive after your phone is connected to the car, not prior messages.

Thanks but no luck, maybe it is like this because I am mainly sending/getting free iphone to iphone messages which is not SMS type?

You must be on iOS 6.0 (iPhone 5 comes pre-loaded with this). Then after you connect your phone via bluetooth follow these steps.
Go Into the Settings app on your iPhone. Then navigate to "Bluetooth" - the third option. Under devices you should see "MB Bluetooth" Click the blue button to the right that has a white arrow pointing to the right. Wait a few seconds and you should see a few options pop-up.
The options are "Show Notifications" and "Sync Contacts". There should be an On/Off toggle switch. Make sure the Sync Notifications switch is toggled "On" and highlighted blue. You should then be able to read your text messages you receive while the phone is paired to your bluetooth device via the Comand System. The "Text message" icon on the bottom row should be blacked out and able to click on.
