Our weird looking C250/C350 rear calipers

Anyone know why we have this weird shaped rear brake caliper? I was curious why its designed like it is and why its not like the normal looking front ones. I wanted to paint mine black but theres not much to the rear ones to paint.
Anyone switch then out for ones that look like the front?

They look like 'normal' rear callipers to me

Had a look at all my other cars which are of different make and they too are similar, AFAIK most 'normal' brakes for most car types/brands are made by similar suppliers anyway.

Fronts are always bulkier units as they are responsible for most of the braking effort

Certainly a set of nice coloured Brembos like the ones fitted to the C63 variant would be nice in that regard

But if it is not brembo, should it look as ugly Civic with mods? Why would anyone paint original MB parts?

What's weird about the rear calipers? Am I the only one who hasn't noticed anything weird?

Some people would like to paint parts, installing 4 tips exhaust on 4 cylinder car, make it noisy as hell, stick AMG words to any possible places etc In my opinion all these changes are tasteless and reminds me Civic modifiers you could see on every road in US.

I agree with that civic thing but since my car is black I just thought that as a nice touch I paint just the gray part of the calipers black and leave the word Mercedes alone. I did this with my 2007 boxster and it looked great. I could see doing it in yellow, red, blue, pink would look nothing but tacky and riced out.

I always thought that the ford mustang was taking the place of the civic tunners but alot of guys with these C250s seem to be turning them into the civic of today.

What I meant was they werent the same shape as the front rotors. I was just pointing this out because on both of my porsches the rotors all around were the same on both cars also my audi from a few years back had all matching rotors. I happen to notice that the mercedes was different and was wondering why.

If you have a quick look at all 'regular' vehicle type rear brake callipers then the MB ones shouldn't look out of place so much

Agree with some of the points above - 'ricing up' a nice vehicle is not what alot of people want or even want to see of other peoples cars, but that sort of thing is always subjective and up to the individual so what may be tasteful mods for one person may not be the case for another it's always a case of each to their own.

Also agree it would be nice to see a better looking rear calliper especially if you have larger rims with larger windows that expose the calliper even more, again an individual decision as to how to improve that area, I'm sure alot of people would love to add a nicer and more effective brake set however the cost is extremely high for such a mod - a good brake set from say Brembo or any one of the other similar brands out there could cost up to and over $10k

I have another heavily modified car to which I installed a 'MoviT' set of aftermarket brakes to and they set me back $8k all up over 8 years ago, that car also has large 20" wheels and it all looks and works fantastic, it's all up to the individual on things like that hopefully you'll find a solution that satisfies your requirements

Hey hey hey, be nice. The C350 crowd are doing the same even more so in the sedan section of w204. Plenty of riced out c350/C300 Sedans (more than the c250) with quad tips and loud exhaust and other crazy stuff.

If this was more of a tuner car then painting calipers would be ok. Since C350/C250 are not tuner cars or even fast cars to be exact, I wouldn't paint the calipers unless you are trying to hide them. Painting them bright yellow, red, or orange and the OEMs are not even a big brake kit is uhhh ricey...

Just someone’s opinion, you could paint any hose under your hood in different color (actually know someone who did this long ago on his Volvo) if you like
