2014 sport coupe - tinted & tuned
You are certainly correct, you won't feel much improvement past about the 5k rpm mark - it's mostly a midrange gain. I find it's most enjoyable to "roll on" the throttle, steadily pressing harder until high rpm shifts vs. just mashing the peddle...the tuner seems to respond nicely to this method of making power.
As for the intake, it surely makes things sound nice under the hood...I can't speak to anything else as I installed it at the same time as the tuner. I like it - I wish it was wasn't sitting in the middle of the engine heat...I may retube it one day...I'm in no rush though.
Report back after you have some time on the tuner!
Must note: I didn't push E mode at all and let it shift around 2k RPM. On S mode, you can't but help push it so the shifts would range anywhere from 3500 to 4500 RPM. For the purpose of apple to oranges A/B testing, I didn't push S mode beyond that. Again, I recognize that this is not a true comparison but we get the general idea.
Driving in E mode was not all that bad. Still felt the typical lag as it starts in 2nd gear but after it went going, it was definitely doable. Even passing at highway miles around 70mph, it had a nice kick to get going. Even in E mode, it felt a lot better than my previous 2011 E350 when it was S mode. The 2011 E350 motor just didn't have the ooomph you would expect from a 6 cylinder.
In S mode, it was a pleasure driving around. I think where the tuner really shines for me was going from 3rd to 4th gear. It just has a really nice thrust when you push the pedal around 3k ~4k rpm and can really feel the added torque (which was the big reason why I wanted to get the tuner). I think the C250 coupe sports plus already had a good feel with its adjusted transmission but what the BMS tuner does to it just feels better...the car just feels more responsive. Where it gets really really fun is when cutting the corners with the car's rev matching. I like how it stays in gear and off the turn, you can push the accelerator and it just goes. It seems like the tuner was made for the sports plus in that regard since it sits around 3500-4000 rpm after the turn and the tuner is really optimized for that RPM band.
I will probably keep the tuner at 40% for another week or two and then move it to 50%.
I am selling my intake, I removed it the other day...if anyone is interested let me know! It's got roughly 1000 miles on it.
