Odometer Tampering or not

I noticed something very weird today. I bought a 2012 CPO C250 Coupe from a local Mercedes Benz dealership less than three weeks ago. Was very happy all around with this purchase until today. I was rolling through the cluster and noticed something weird with the mileage.

It appears that the From Reset mileage was greater than the actual odometer mileage. At the time my actual mileage was 40230 but the Reset mileage was 40232. This immediately set off a red flag for me. Pics attached.

I tried to call MBUSA to discuss and unfortunately Customer Service was closed today. I then called the Pre Owned Managers, Service Manager and Director with no answer. I emailed them all and finally got a call back from the service manager. He went on to tell me that back in March of 2014 the car had an update that could have thrown off the mileage and should have been reset. This really doesn't make any sense to me since, if the car was reset, it should have reset everything at that time. For example, if the mileage is 40K+ now, then it was probably 30K back in March and if it was reset then the RESET mileage should have been around 10K+. Not really buying this explanation but not sure until I speak to Mercedes USA.

I have asked them to provide the service bulletin for the update in March stating the issue and the odometer issue, the CPO paper work showing them validating the mileage check and the CarFax on the car.

I spoke to my friend who is a Certified Mercedes Benz mechanic and he doesn't buy the explanation as well.

Anyone have any thoughts on this and what do you think the next step should be?

probably just a fluke in the electronics of the car. I doubt someone would drive the car from day one and never reset the trip calculator (although possible I just doubt it)

One of the points exactly. Unless someone messed with the odometer programming and turned back the miles. I am thinking a lease return that was possibly over their miles.

this is not a 1970s VW. Tampering with an odometer in a modern mercedes requires a significant amount of skill and technology. relax, calm down, and enjoy the car, no one tampered with the odometer.

I have seen this on brand new cars, during the PDI. its like they are driven a short period even in the factory before the odometer is reset to zero but the trip counter is not.

You're probably right. Just something that stuck out as soon as I saw it. I checked the car fax and service records and everything is in line with the mileage and dates.
