My roof literally explode while I was driving on the highway yesterday. There as been no impact with the glass (rock or anything else). The window was in perfect condition before the explosion.
Did anyone else ever experience this ?

wow, that mustve been scary as hell. hope you're alright!
have you taken it in or called your dealership yet? not sure if they'll have an explanation but if that's not from some kind of impact I have no idea what it could possibly be
Was there a big temperature difference between inside and outside? Its been happening in the last few years. A quick google search will pull similar incidents
Tempered glass has been known to suddenly crack or burst but it seems to only take certain circumstances to make it happen like sudden large temperature variations, high vibration etc. other than that it could've been a defective production batch or unit
Hopefully your still covered by warranty or have a sympathetic MB dealer to go to, I'd hate to think of what the repair bill is...
Hope you are okay. I've been having the phobia that that glass will explode ... I've heard of this being very common with 335i in the pass. Hope everything gets repair soon!
Did u ever hear of any creaking? Or anything that may have made u think it was under tension? I just got my 2012 on Friday and there are times when I'm making a turn it almost sounds like the roof is popping or something or the frame is twisting. After reading this post I feel like my roof is one turn away from exploding

i had mine done and got the car yesterday but there is still a popping noise. i noticed it happens when the car sits under the sun for a while. here's the techs diagnosis:
PANORAMIC ROOF FRAME CAME LOOSE. PERFORMED ROAD TEST.
VERIFIED POPPING NOISE FROM SUNROOF AREA. REMOVED HEADLINER. UPON INSPECTION OF PANORAMIC ROOF, NOTED SEVERAL BOLTS LOOSE ON FRAME. REPLACED ALL BOLTS AND TORQUE TO FACTORY SPECS. RE-INSTALLED HEADLINER. PERFORMED FINAL ROAD TEST. VERIFIED NO ABNORMAL NOISE FROM SUNROOF. OK.
i'm going to drive the car for a while and if the popping noise happens often, i will have it checked again.

.......my 2012 C250 Coupe sunroof creaks(lightly) when I back out of my garage and make the driveway/sidewalk/(rounded) curb to street transition..................
I used to hear it often but not anymore though. Not because it no longer happens but because I've just gotten used to how often it clanks. At this one corner by my house the ground is uneven and turning over it makes that sound in my pano roof every time.
purchased a 2016 GLE 350 4Matic and was driving along on a quite highway at night noone around, no underpasses. I heard a loud bang and almost turned off the highway. Kept driving because it scared me to death. After googling panoramic sunroofs exploding, I came across several MB issues, as well as many other vehicles 2010 - present with exploding roofs. I'm working with the dealership now trying to get it fixed. But of course you have speculation of an object hitting it, but that is not always the case.
I've had my 2012 at the dealership three times since getting her Sept 2015 for Pano roof creaks. They've performed several operations including the complete removal of the glass. It still creaks a bit but at least I have some documentation to back a claim if this was to happen.
I get a vibration in the glass at Idle. It goes away when I drive.
To reproduce:
1. open roof and windows
2. start car
3. hear the vibration noise
4. put hand on glass and feel it vibrating
5. drive away and hear the noise go away
I've had it in the dealerships hands and they couldn't reproduce it. They even told me that all the bolts were tight. Should I worry that the vibration is a dangerous thing or is it just an annoyance that might someday get corrected.
