Metallic Rattle on cold engine
so I have a rather unusual issue with my C180 (2012, 1.6 Turbo).
When I start the engine and it’s totally cold (after at least 7-8 hours of cooling down) I can hear some metallic rattle coming from the engine. The rattle gets faster when I rev up.
I can also hear some metallic noise when I rev up between 1500 and 2000 rpm (the moment I put my foot off the gas pedal I can hear something that can be described as a quick, quiet metallic knock) the moment revs start falling back to idle.
As soon as the engine heats up a bit, all the sounds are gone.
This has been going on for some time now, I thought there might be something wrong with the timing chain and its tensioner, but I got them replaced and the sound is still there…
The mileage is just 140k km (87k miles).
Could anyone support me with this one and help me locate the source of these sounds?
