We Need More Threads in this forum - Coupe vs C43 Coupe Vs Cabriolet

There are substantial price differences between base C Class Coupe, the C43 Coupe and Cabriolets.
This makes the final price a big factor in the final decision of what to get.

In Canada the base C300 Coupe starts at $ 48,100
C43 AMG Coupe $ 59,500

A difference of $ 11,400
For that you get a Bi Turbo V6 with 50% more horsepower and torque
A 9 Speed Transmission
4Matic and AMG Sports suspension
AMG Badging, Flat Bottom AMG Steering, AMG Car Dynamics with the Command Media Screen
AMG backlit door sills. I think that it.

All in all a good price if your a driver with a heavy foot.

The base C300 Cabriolet starts at $ 57,100
A difference of $ 9,000 from a base C300 Coupe
For that you get the same engine
A 9 Speed Transmission
4Matic
Automatic Soft top roof with open/close at standstill and up to 50K/hr (20sec)
Air Cap (Wind deflector system on top of windshield and behind back seats) and Air Scarf (front passengers only get built in 3 speed Ceramic Heaters in the headrests)
Row of Aluminium buttons to control above along with All Windows Control Button.
The intangibles of driving with the roof down (priceless)

The C43 Cabriolet is $ 68,800 a difference of $ 11,700

I mentioned 4Matic because its optional in the USA.
You can option the AMG Line Sports Package in the base models and achieve a visual exterior and interior C43 look, along with the Engine Data Screen... $ 2000

I don't think the C63 or C63S are part of the thinking for most on here.
The reason I say that is that it is not available with 4Matic and the transmission is the Dual Clutch 7 Speed.
This full bred AMG is priced where the buyer has some interesting MB options from the GT to an S Class Coupe or Cabriolet.

It would be interesting to get feedback as to what influenced your final decision.

N/A
For us it was the 4Matic and the bi-turbo v6 in the C43. The cabriolets are nice but prefer the look of the coupe and it's more approbate for our inclement weather in the UK.

Are there any options or packages which are standard in C43 but are extra in the base Coupe? This would offset the price difference.

Yes and No. These are all Canadian specs.
The Sport Package Option comes standard with the C43 as it is AMG badged. ($2000 savings)
You also get standard Artico covered seats with red stitching. The similar leather version is $1990
The C43 gives you options not available with the base Coupe such as;

AMG DRIVER'S PACKAGE
MSRP*$1,850.00
Brief description
Summer Performance Tires
AMG Performance Exhaust System
19" AMG Multi-Spoke Wheel
AMG Performance Steering Wheel

There is also a Carbon Fiber Exterior Mirror package for $2500 (seems a bit pricy)

The base Coupe give you the SPORT PACKAGE option for.
MSRP*$2,000.00 Brief description:
ARTICO Leather Dashboard
AMG Exterior Package
18" AMG 5-Spoke Wheels
AMG Styling Package
Diamond Grille in Chrome
AMG Interior Package
AMG Velour Floor Mats

So the answer is a bit complicated as you can see. If you go for the C43 you might as well go for the AMG Driver Package so that sort of cancels your $2000 savings. So that $11,400 difference in price + $1850 now becomes $13,250 or $11,250 if the Base Coupe takes the no brainer Sports Package option.

So it comes down to a $9,400 price for the upgraded Bi Turbo V6 +/- a $x00.00s for AMG badging and door sills.

Are you going with leather?
I read that some people actually prefer artico than leather because of its durability.

I am the proud driver of a C300 Cabriolet with leather seats...its on my profile pic on the left.

I did have beige Artico in my W204 and it was stunning and to this day I cannot tell you the difference in how they present. Unless you opt for Nappa leather you don't get the leather scent as far as my nose can tell.

If you intend to keep the car longer than 5 years I am sure the Artico is the longer lasting of the two.

There are lots of threads on here about the differences.

If you can get the colour you want in Artico I say go for it and Keep the $1990 for other goodies

Good to know.
My daily commute is a 2004 CLK320 which I bought new 13 years ago. It has leather interior which looks great after all these years. However, the interior is well maintained with Meguiars leather and vinyl products.

2018 C43 Cabriolet
For those who may be interested , here is my thought process regarding the C coupe/AMG/C cabrio decision
Last year I decided to replace my 2014 C350 4MATIC in 2018 , for the usual reasons such as warranty, wanting something new etc , but primarily the desire to have a year-round convertible after many, many years of sedans.
Being pleased with Mercedes , this coincided with their first offering of proper C class cabrio . The E cabrio was not an option due to size , price and being only RWD, as this will be my only vehicle and the Canadian winter would be an issue.
This then, eliminated the decision between sedan, coupe and cabrio . My second choice would have been the sedan, because I prefer 4 small doors and the better visibility .
These are the main disadvantages of the coupe , but a necessary evil of the cabrio, which I have accepted.
This then led to the choice of engine .
Based on the Canadian configurator, the C63 would be too expensive , un-necessarily powerful for me and only RWD.
The C300 cabrio would be a good choice , but for an extra $8K the C43 will have : 50% more power , 40% more torque , adjustable dynamics, better engine sound and other details . Hence my decision to go with the C43 cabrio.
I'm hoping for a $30K (trade+discount) off the $80K MSRP , with a late 2017 order and a Spring 2018 delivery .
My present car took 5 months to come from Germany , so I'm assuming the current delivery time is similar .
Again , this was my thought process and obviously reflects my personal priorities .

For a daily commute, I think the C300 is suffice.
I am actually concerned about gas mileage. I have to drive 50km (one way) to work everyday. Not sure the the C Coupe will ever get the hybrid version like the C300E.

Yeah this is why I went with the C300 - I love power, and I'd love to drive the C43, but in my old age (ie my late 30's) I'm loving fuel economy even more. Just hit my best tank the other day, 730kms (454 miles), avg 8.2L/100km (approx 29mpg). I do a good mix of city and highway driving, so I think that's pretty good. I'm pretty sure I could hit 34-35 mpg on a highway tank.

Mixed milage of 8.2L/100KM is quite good.
On the other hand, maybe they will put the hybrid engine of C350e into the CCoupe, 275 HP and 443 ft-lb with fuel economy of 45/61 MPG.
