C300 Edition 1 Coupe
Excessive Tire wear C300 Coupe
My 17' C300 Coupe Edition 1 came with 19in with summer tires (Goodyear Eagle F1 Runflat) UTQG: 240 AA A Front: 225/40/19 Rear: 245/35/19
My issue is the rear tires are not lasting very long (under 5K miles). I replaced the rears in Oct. 2018 and just noticed they are down to the wear markers. I run a different winter wheel/tire from Nov-April. So I'm not doing high mileage. The dealership said the alignment setup is more aggressive for the "AMG" optioned cars for better cornering performance, but I have a aggressive alignment on my Porsche with nowhere similar wear. I'm thinking of moving to a non runflat and going with a harder compound. The dealership did do a alignment with the last rear tire replacement. I didn't notice any difference in driving feel. I still feel excessive bounce over road bumps and in the rain it feels like the rear steps out and feels like the back is moving around. I don't have that feel with my snows.
Thanks for any feedback!

I only do about 3500 miles/yr on my 2017 C300 coupe. Although hot here in southeast FL, the roads are straight and flat without pot holes...just trying to say that the general tire environment is not abusive. Also, although I may occasionally step on the gas, my driving habits are not abusive. 35psi all around and checked every 2-3 weeks. Nonetheless, at about 9500 miles the dealership told me that my right front tire was wearing badly and I needed a wheel alignment. Took the car to a trusted tire alignment place and was told that the specs were in normal range, but I had them do the alignment anyway. I called MB to tell them that nothing was wrong with the alignment and they said only MB could do a proper alignment...B$. Anyway, the car's lease is up mid-August (car will have 11K miles) and I hope that the tire won't cause me any extra $.

NEW CAR INDUSTRIES BEST KEPT SECRET
It's all to do with cost savings and ever increasing speed of auto assembly lines.
Then because of broad alignment parameters dealers are able to effectively counter, fend off the frustration of owners by advising after a FULL ALIGNMENT (above toe only adjustment)…..
THAT VEHICLE IS WITHIN OEM SPECS - when clearly excessive edge tire wear issues are not resolved.
Leading then to ongoing trips to other dealers or alignment shops or constantly changing tire brands (in the mistaken belief that this could somehow be the reason for this costly premature “edge load/wear”).
WE SAW THE NEED THEREFORE TO RE-INSTATE FROM THE EARLY 90’S ONCE AGAIN “FULL PRECISE FRONT AND REAR ADJUSTMENT”
CAMBER to allow to adjust tire contact angles, spread the load more evenly.
CASTER to adjust, compensate for Caster change, also improve steering response and correctly resolve steering pull.
Unique patented designs simply replacing the 4 front and rear (highest wearing) suspension bushings. Single wrench adjustable - accurately, under load, direct on alignment rack. Instructions, extraction/insertion tubes included.
K-MAC HAS THE EXPERIENCE OF MANUFACTURING ADJUSTMENT KITS LONGER THAN ANYONE ELSE, with the worlds largest range over 800 P/N’s. Guaranteed noiseless, long term maintenance free.

Yeah, although my tires are never under-pressured, it was the outer edge that was showing the excessive wear. So, K-Mac, are you saying that "it is what it is," and that we are doomed to excessive tire wear even when under OEM specs? Of course, unless we put in parts that will correct the manufacturer's "errors."

After querying "still excess edge wear" - on completion of "Full" alignment (Toe only adjustment), are placated, resigned to the situation by being told is "within (the broad) OEM alignment parameters"
It is all to do with cost cutting and the ever increasing speed of auto assembly lines.
No longer ongoing adjustment to cater for other than "showroom height" conditions. All the common issues encountered in day to day commuting..... high cambered roads, fitting wide profile tires/wheels, wheel squat through load carrying or lowering, curb knocks, correctly resolving steering pull.

i have exact same thing with my 2015 W205 C300 AMG sport.
ive owned it since new, but this year my rear tyre wear is insane!
also I’m getting very twitchy rear end even on just damp roads.
ive changed my rear sway bars and had all alignment etc... sorted but problem still happens.
please let me know what fixed your problem
