2017 C300 How do I open tonneau cover when the release cables don't work?
At the time of the malfunction, the soft top front section was already latched to the windshield frame, but the rear window section (rear bow) could not move because the flap retraction linkage (or roof compartment cover flap actuator) remained extended outside the lid, obstructing its movement.
The center console roof control switch did not respond and would not move the top in either direction. Additionally, I was unable to reopen the storage compartment lid (tonneau cover) using the switch.
I attempted to manually unlock the tonneau cover by pulling the emergency release cables located in the trunk. The driver's side release cable exhibited a mechanical release action with an audible unlocking sound, but the driver’s side of the tonneau cover remained locked and did not move.
On the passenger side, the release cable extended significantly under tension but did not exhibit any release feel or audible unlocking sound. The passenger-side of the tonneau cover remained locked.
Any advice on how to get the tonneau cover released (and then further troubleshoot) would be appreciated.
