I have a 1998 C280 Sport, 52K with the Starmark and when it's started after sitting over night it knocks for about 1 to 2 seconds(like a bearing is bad or from lack of oil). I bought the car with 50K on it and just noticed the knocking the last 2 or three days. And ideas ?

 

hmmm... i have knocking noise (kinda like the defective a/c rythmic noise knwn in w202's) but its in the front left side.. not wen i start up but wen i stop after driving at high speeds.. dunno

 

Sounds like you might have a tire out or round or with a flat spot.

 

it cant be... it only has that sound when im at a dead stop... like a rythmic thump every second from the front left engine compartment... i got outta the car and it sounded like its coming from the wheel well, and it stops after like 2 mins or so stopping after i drive around

yes it does.. i thought it was normal since jap cars wen they're turned off have that tinking sound.. i still dont knw wat it is but its on every car so im assuming its normal.. but mine it has a knocking(light thump..thump..thump.. not tinking) sound only wen its running.. its noiseless wen its shut off, even after long drives

You might have a bad rod, that tinking sound on Jap car after shut down is the exhaust, I don't know what but it have to do with the heat shield being used. Does you car still have a warranty ?

Mine gets it to (cold Engine Knock) it does it allot. No matter what oil I use, I thought it was a bad rod pinging to. I guess ill know if the motor goes bad =(

 

Have you shecked the oil filter. Some oil filters do not have the stop valve, this would allow the oil in the gallery to flow back into the sump when engine is turned off.

 

No I have not checked that. Any part number or recom.. for a good filter to use?

Thats easily accessible in the states?
