Rust?
Have any of you noticed rust on the exterior of your cars? I have a 99 C230 and there are about 5 spots. 3 on the door edges and two coming from under the side trim. I don't think this should be happening...
Note: I saw this posted on these cars, but those were all covered under warranty. My car is now out of warranty so I'm faced with that "live with it" or "fix it" dilema.

I think it should be covered... My car is in nearly pristine condition. No accidents, etc.
I've gota spot on my CLK by the trunk key hole where the paint has bubbled up apparently due to some oxidation defect, i was washing it one day and the water pressure knocked it off, it was all rusted under there. Any lifetime warantee would be very sweet

I may be mistaken, I believe it's like 5 years unlimited miles. That's what it is. For some reason I though they covered it for the life of the vehicle. Sorry guys.

On the W202 I got there are no signs of rust but I will start doing the annual rustproofing as I have done on all my MBs and no rust has appeared on them...if any its bare minimal.
Dont listen to MB with their "no need to rustproof" theory.....the metal is worse or equivalent to Hondas.

So I took those trim strips off the doors.
Wow....it was scary. I read what someone else said about the vibrations of those strips causing wearing through the paint. I am going to attempt to treat/repaint those myself... I'd shouldn't be too hard as they arent seen....yet.

yep...rust bubbles, one on each side of the two front doors underneath the side moulding. Take the moulding off and you'll see more rust. Starting near the antenna now
Seen a lot of w202's with this around New England.
I believe the corrosion warranty is throughout rust not just bubbling. Its unlimited miles but only within a certain amount of time...5 years I believe.
MB has acutally known about the rust issue on some of the models (C and E being the most affected I believe). If you take it to the dealer and involve MBUSA and make a big enough scene, MB will usually help pay for 1/2 of the repair to correct the rust. Do a search, some have had luck with this either on the w202 side or w210 side
