Yes just use the dipstick. Changing the tranny fluid is also pretty easy. I used Mobil1 ATF in my car and just bought the gasket kit from the dealer. Car takes about 4-5 quarts. If you have ever done this on any car you can do it on your C Class.

If you have a W202 you must have a dipstick. If you have a newer W203 then you dont have a dipstick. If not you might want to just go buy a dipstick from the dealer.

Any C-class (W202) from 94-96 with the 4 speed auto trans (722.4) has the dipstick.

Any C-class from 97-00 with the 5 speed auto (driver adaptive) trans (722.6), there is NO dipstick. There appears to be one, but there is not.

You must take it to the dealer or someone with the proper equipment to measure the fluid level. I would have it changed every 60k NO matter what, if I were you. I plan on doing this on the CLK. Fill-for-life MY @SS!

Hope this helps.

also, make sure not to take it to someone that "Claims" they can refill your tranny fluid (by recycling it) I made this mistake, and they filled it all right, but only half way. (Lovely) new transmission 3 months later =(

For the 5 speedc 722.6 (97+) transmisison, that is about $4,000!! The 4 speed 722.4 is roughly $3,000.

You talking about brand new from the dealer or rebuilt one and is it with labor or not. Thank You.
