Hey, I'm looking into buying a 98-00 c280 at a good price and would like to know how many speakers the car has and what sizes they are? anybody tried replacing the speakers or the entire setup? If anybody wants to sell me theirs at a good price near me in southern california, then pm me

If the 280 is anything like my 2000 230K, then there are two 6.5" in the front doors, two 4" in the rear doors, and two 6" subwoofers over the back headrests. Of course all that is off the top of my head, so please correct me if I'm wrong. When I was changing my speakers out, the shop was surprised that the back was 4" and not 6.5". Not too many of those out there I guess.

wow, 4 is pretty small. how does it sound? i have a w124 87' 300e right now with 4's in the front and 5.25's in the back but was able to fit 13cm and 16 cm in the back. Mine didn't have the door panel speakers. Did you just replace the speakers? Headunit? amp? crossovers? and was it going through the bose premium sound system?

The reason I changed them out was because max volume on the stock system was pathetic. I put MTXs in the front and Infinitys in the back. Yeah they're not the best, but they sound 10 times better than the stock ones. You can't tell much difference between 4s and 6.5s IMHO. I did a crossover system with a 650 watt Sony XPlod amp (again not the best) mounted in my trunk. I wanted to keep the factory look and I thought the factory head unit was pretty cool in its own right. To me it sounds a ton better. As far as I know, my car didn't have Bose as standard. Or at least it didn't say Bose anywhere. Hope that helps some.
