Coil Over or Cup Kit?

I plan to install a set of new suspension on 97 C Klass, Should I use Coil Over or the Cup Kit? Has any one has a set of H&R installed? What is the difference between these two? By the way, I plan to use this new set with 15mm wheel spacer install at the rear wheels, will this change the performace by not install the wheel spacer?

The Cup kit is pretty low from what I hear, but the springs are matched to the shocks, which is nice...i don't know of coilover kits for the W202...if they have it, i'm sure it's pretty expensive.

the spacers will depend on your rims and offset...if you have larger rims, then 15mm spacers might cause the rims to rub against the fender...

cupkit

I have a set of H&R cupkit the performance is awesome but it is kinda to low form my taste. I put the highest spring pad available for my car and it is still 1/2 inch above my wheel well but the rear is perfect so if you like this look then let me know I well sell you mine I had it for approx. a little less then 5 months (I only drive my car on the weekends anywayz cuz from my house to work its about 50 miles one way)

I have heard several comments regarding to the cup kit reduce the car too low. Since I will install a set of 15mm wheel spacers at the rear, I am afraid it will scratch my rear tires.

According to the H&R manual that the cup kits lower the car by 2" front and 1.7" rear. And if only H&R sports springs installed, it will only lower 1.4" front and 1.3" rear. Have you ever tried to install the springs only without the shocks that came with the cup kit. If you have, how does the car handle comparing to the cup kits installed?

By the way, some online retailer quoted me the completed H&R cup kits for $586 + shipping brand new and H&R sport springs set for $246 + shipping brand new. How low can you go for the cup kits? or if you want to separate the springs from shocks, how much will it cost me to make a deal for the springs only.

Thanks!

k the cupkit consist of 4 H&R springs and 4 shocks. I have not tried just putting the springs in and using a differnt shock since it is a spring and shock combination. I have 18 AMG monoblocks on my car running 225/40/18 pirelli p7000. You don't need to worry about the rear of the car.

"AMGC230K", how about $250 for the cup kits, if you agree, I think I can pick it up during weekend. This will save you a trip to post office and save me some money for the shipping.

by the way, I am from Orange county, CA.

you are the seller, you decide what you want for the whole kit. If the price is right, i will take them. $250 is my estimate, brand new only cost $586, and you have them for 5 months. Things depreciate when time goes by, especially for the auto/auto parts. Everyone knows that when you purchase a brand new car, as soon as vehicle been driven out off lot, it depreciates right away. also this cup kits is still around, it is not a discountinue item. $250 is what i estimate and is not the final price.

If a new vehicle sales ask buyer how much they want to pay for a vehicle, they will probably reply with a very unreasonable low low price. This is just common sense.

don't get mad, now the ball is in your hand, let me know if you are still willing to negotiate.

if i keep the original stock shock installed and changed the stock springs to H&R sport springs only. what is the advantage and disvantage of this. will this setup shorten the life of my stock shocks? how about the handling, better than stock or worst?

is there really a "coil-over" for w202? i thought the spring and shock pickup points are different in the front as well as the rear?

has not seen one yet, but H&R make a set for W203. i heard that the coil over is much better than the cup kits. so just post it to see if any one has a set installed.

well the cupkit is the least expensive way with great performance the coilover cost too much money so people usually get the cupkit instead. super..it depends on how you want your car to look like. you can get the cupkit spring and use an H&R shock if you wanted handling might get affected a little but you won't notice the difference.

If you use H&R's w/stock shocks, expect the stock shocks to be worn out rather quickly...eventually the car will be pretty bouncy..that's why you want to switch the shocks with shorter shocks (like Bilstien Sports). If i had known the cup kit was so cheap, i would've went that route (and used the thickest spring pads...hehe)

no it doesn't scratch the bottom of your car when you go over speed bumps...its about 1/4 inch above the tire.

do u feel a lot of difference comparing to the stock suspension, in what degree of comfortable level does it lost by installing the cup kits?

i would like to get better handling (corner) but don't want to compensate the sedan's characteristic (comfortable).

so what is the best solution, (1) stock suspension with plus size wheel package 17" with 225/45zr17 all four corners, (2) cup kits with plus size package 17" with 225/45zr17, (3)H&R springs + stock shocks + 17" wheel package. or any other combination?
