XENON Headlight assemblies
There is a plug-and-play XENON headlights assemblies for sale on the net. It includes the original Bosch replacement headlight assemblies with transformers, bulbs and wiring. Each set is on sale for $989/set and fits 93-00 W202. Has any one tried this and how good is this comparing to the factory installed HID?
This is not the Philip HID light kits.

These kits are probably E-code headlights (euro spec) with aftermarket HID bulbs and ballasts...they work fine IMO (i installed just the aftermarket bulb and ballast on my SLK). The only problem i had is that the light spread pattern sucked (because the lenses were not designed for HIDs). The factory HID conversion has auto-leveling from what i remember...
but if you're just looking to get the hid color and brightness and you don't care too much for the spread pattern (it will definitely be brighter than stock), then just get the bulb and ballast...it costs under $500 for that. If you want the E-code headlights, i know someone selling a set..all together you're looking around $700.

What i am looking for is not only the color or the brightness to simulate the original HID. I want to have the original manufacture HID performance (color, light pattern, and brightness). The E-code that mentioned here will produce the same performace which original manufature intended to perform?

is the e-code HID has the same spec as the US version? light pattern, brightness, and color? I heard that e-code been sold at US comes with complete headlight assembly which does not require drill or modification to the current W202, just pull the stock and bolt on the E-code by few screws, and you are done.
under $1000 is still a good buy comparing to the looks-fake after market HID.

Ok..let me clarify a bit here...
E-Code headlights are the euro spec headlights (non HID)..they have a sharper cut-off than the US spec, but the light pattern is still not as good as the OEM HID kit (since they're not specifically designed for HIDs). Think of the E-Code kit as the in-between solution. It's better than the stock US headlights, but not as good as the OEM HID. =)
The E-Codes should fit directly in, but it depends the year you buy. For example: On my 94 C280, I bought a set of 98-on E-Codes (used)...but i needed to replace the plastic strip below the headlight. I think if i had gotten e-codes from a 97 and older then i wouldn't have to change the plastic strip.
It depends on how much you want to spend, and what you're looking for...if you're looking for just brighter lights with the color of HID, just get the plug-in HID kit (bulb, ballast)....i think you'll be quite happy with that...the light pattern might not be the best, and some people might highbeam you since they think your lights are too bright...but they sure look cool when you turn them on![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Oh, i just realized they wrote up a comparison at benzsport. Here's the article:
