How to reset oil change indicator?

I got my oil changed recently but the dealer would reset my "need an oil change" indicator that comes up on the dash upon startup (because I would not get the full $249 service). From what I understand it is reset to 10,000 miles and will count down when it comes close to that mileage if you have not by that time had it reset. Once you go beyond the 10,000 miles, it begins to say you are "-1,300 miles" overdue, etc.

Is there a way to reset this counter on my own?

Thank you.

Thank you for the reply. I went through the directions under "Stage 2" but doing so did not reset my FSS. I never get the long beep and the "10,000" mile reading. Any ideas how come not?

What year is your car ?
I've heard people claim they had to have the doors close, for the reset to work.
Never had to do this on my car.

it blinks "-1,800" on startup

I followed directions right off the above post (listed link) and the owner's manual -- unless I am missing something.

I might take it into the dealer in tomorrow morning...they have a "fast lane" on the left on Saturday mornings....if you have a small / quick issue, they let you pull to the front of the service line....the other week they replaced a front headlight for me in 5 minutes....no charge, either. Perhaps they will do the same with resetting my FSS?

Be sure to buy them a coffee.
And see if they'll let you observe the procedure.

Have you visited the dealer? I believe any authorized benz repair station can help you with oil change indicator. They will reset using a special software (I assume it is an engine monitoring software from Benz) . Besides reset the oil change indicator, you may also check the status most of major instrument of your car such as ABS, Brake Assist, Airflow sensor etc. I just did the same things with my c230 a week ago at one of Benz spare shop and repair station in my city.
