Vacuum hose

Greeting from South Africa.I have a '96 C220 and I need a little help.Could any of you possibly tell me where the vacuum hose in the picture goes to.Bloody mech replaced the headgasket and left a few vacuum hoses disconnected. The car seems to hunt at idle and jerks when stopping and sometimes dies.I managed to find where most of the vacuum hoses go except for this one.If I block it off the idle is much better and it doesnt seem to hunt anymore but obviously it has to go somewhere.

At the bottom right of the picture you posted is the top of the ABS unit, the valve you are looking for is mounted on the inner wing directly below this. It is a valve with 2 pipe connections and an electrical plug , marked on the valve is MOT and an arrow ,this is the direction of connection to the motor, nothing to do with the MOT test .The bottom of the vacuum pipe you have circled will connect to the connector indicated by the arrow. The function of the valve is to control the purging of the activated charcoal canister on the fuel tank breather ,as part of the emission control system.
If you need any more help, just ask.
Cheers, Geo.
ps. I wish my engine was as clean as your's.

Its not my engine. Its a pic from the forum, trust me I wish mine could look that good as well. Thanks for the help. Will have a look tonight and hopefully sort out the problem.

Also is it common for the wiring to become brittle....there sure are alot of them that are.So far I've had to rewire the coils and injectors.

Yes, the insulation becoming brittle and dropping off ,causing short circuits is a problem, especially in hot countries. MB have paid to have looms replaced in the US, I think they were trying a new type of insulation in the mid 90s, biodegradeable,LOL. Check the wiring from the idle control valve, it goes there as well.
Cheers, Geo.

You would think that a car that costs this much they could atleast use better wiring.I doubt they would pick up the cost here and I try to avoid them.Just last week they qouted me R2500 (+/- $350) for the plug leads but then again they not the only ones with ridiculous prices in SA.

The prices for parts from the main dealer here are quite steep, although they tend to discount prices for cars over 10yro ,to move the stock,I assume. But ancillary parts are readily available from alternative suppliers, so the older ones are no more expensive to run than anything else.
My wife has friends in Jo'burg so I understand your problems with the cost of imported stuff.
I've had a few things to sort out with mine since I got it, but now it's a great car and a pleasure to drive , so stick in there.
Geo.
