Smart key will not engage
can not get the car to start. I am 600 miles from home and need help fast. I live in Georgia and am in Indiana right now. The key was acting like the battery in it was not working very well (distance to auto vs operation of locks) so I replaced them. During that time it seemed as though it was taking time for the car to "recognize" the key. It was not all at once, and happened over the past couple of weeks.
I replaced the batteries in the key, in the car, and left the key in the car for 3 hours under direction of the dealer where I got the car. I do not have another key, and no manual with the car to help guide me. I do not want to pay 95 bucks an hour for some *** to tell me to leave the key in it longer. I have to leave on monday to return to GA, and am in a real hurt right now.

The batteries in the key have nothing to do with it starting- they are only for the locks. The EIS induces voltage into the key for it to work when starting. Sounds like either the EIS, the key or the electronic steering lock has failed. Did you call roadside assistance yet? That will at least get you in touch with a local tech.
