"Auto" button on '97 C280 stuck "on"
Seriously, an unbelievably rude, uncouth passenger started jamming his thumb over all the buttons on my dash about two months ago. He was "hot" and wanted to be "cold." While I'd like to just kill him (especially because he refuses to help me in any way with the damages he did), I can't. And now the "auto" button on the left of the climate control (I'll try to upload a picture soon if it's necessary -- hope it's not!) will not go off. I've tried holding the button down for a while, double tapping it, cranking the blower to high -- all to no avail. Is the button sticking? Is there an easy remedy, or is this a known issue with cars like mine?
I'm new to the Mercedes world, but it has been a very pleasant upgrade from BMW. I hope this forum will be just as satisfying as getting behind the wheel (do you guys REALLY autox? where?)!
Thanks -- and please help!
1. hitting the vent change button
2. turning the unit off and back on with the fan +/- switch
Uh...I haven't had my C280 for very long, and I've had climate control problems. I pretty much keep Auto on all the time unless Wifey wants to roll down the windows.
Good luck

Thanks so much, Prez! I feel like an idiot now, but at least I'm driving in style. I'm so glad nothing's broken.
Good luck with your car's issues!
