Anyone know how to remove the casette holder beneath the stereo?

It's basically useless since I have an aftermarket CD player/changer.

I've also heard you can place an empty "pocket" from later model C280s in it's place. Anyone know the part number?

It's funny you should ask. We had a similiar conversation about this in the thread about removing the factory radio.

You can purchase an 'oddments pocket/trey' from your local MB Dealer. Give them a call, tell them what you want to replace and they should know what you're talking about. My local MB dealer wouldn't provide me the the P/N due to some silly business practice they have.

I was able to find a CD holder for the W202 that fits where your cassette holder current sits. This information was found thanks to SLK Boy. Thanks SLK Boy!

Fischer has one; Check it out!

The part number for the tray is: 202 683 00 91

Ok..here's how to remove the cassette tray (I'm using the euro-Haynes manual which I bought on Ebay through Trollhattan...www.cybertroll.com and from a post at benzsport)

1. First, you need to remove the shift panel. To do this, pry up the plastic frame surrounding the shift panel, which is secured by 2 clips on either side.

2. Pry up the center panel from around the gear/selector lever (there are 2 clips on either side).

3. Lift the panel over the shiftknob and disconnect the wiring connectors (make sure you note which ones go where..this is for earlier model cars like our 94).

4. Remove the small tray that's in front of the gear selector and beneath the ashtray. There may be 2 screws at the base of the tray.

5. After you pull that part you will see the 2 screw holder the ashtray to the center console..remove the screw for the astray. it is going to be on both end, screwed horizontally.

6. Then remove the upper screw (this is the screw the secure the upper tab of the cassette holder, there are 2 screws (vertically).
