WHAT SHOULD I DO?!? MODIFY or WAIT
If you think the C-class is ulgy stock, then get the SLK. Or decide if you think the C-class modified would be more satisfying than a dealer lot, run of the mill SLK.
Both are great cars and the C-class can only get better with modifications. I know this doesn't help much but, it's sort of a personal preference that would decide that for you.

Problems that I've had when I had my SLK:
Rear tailight bulb burned out. Dealer ended up replacing entire housing (both of them).
Driver's side C-pillar had a rubbing mark; it rubbed against the plastic in the trunk when the top was down. Very common problem.
Trunk would be hard to open sometimes; had to get the top aligned.
Alarm went off by itself, at least 6 times. replaced alarm, sensors, keys. This is not common among SLK's, but it was the reason MB took my car back.
The top took 30 seconds too long to go down.
ok, that's not a problem..i just wished it went down a little faster..hehehIf you want more attention, get the SLK...everyone looks at you when you have a convertible..
Sigh..i miss that car...i might get another one...depending on how the new one looks (new SLK comes out next model year).<img src="http://www.jimmyhwang.com/slk/slk1.jpg">
After reading your unpleasant experience with your SLK, it might give me a chance to think it over whether to get the SLK32 or not.
I don't like the new W203 C32 AMG, eventhough it shared the identical engine with SLK32, but just lacking its own personality (like many Lexus models, LS430 = S430, RX300 = ML320, GS430 = E430....). Its look just doesn't impressed me at all.
I like the car with its own personality, for example (New Beetle, BMW Z3, Mini Cooper, Audi TT, Boxster, 911, SLK, SL...) These cars all have distinct, extraordinary exterior style that represent its soul and mission. Some of these cars may be not able to race against the Honda VTEC equiped vehicles or Toyota VVTI engine, but they will always bring smiles on your face.
To me, a car is not just a simple transportation, it reflects the owner's life style.
