CEL Code P1700, thoughts?
Recently my CEL came on in my 1994 C280 with 68k miles. It has an automatic transmission and an inline 6 engine. The CEL came on and I had the code read at Autozone as P1700, which translated to 'Transmission Indeterminate Failure'. I havent experienced really rough shifting, but I have experienced some delayed upshifting when the car is first warming up. Anyone have an idea on how to go about fixing this problem (aside from taking it to a $$$-dealer). I want to check the transmission fluid levels but I cant seem to find the proper tube/dipstick, I thought I found it, but I didnt want to pull or tug on anything randomly. If anyone can take a picture of where the transmission fluid fill/check points are in the engine bay that would be awesome, or if anyone has any general advice that would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it was P1700? Maybe P0700? That is "transmission control system malfunction - read DTC memory of transmission control module." Remedy is listed as "test electronic transmission control (ETC)." Have you tried resetting things to see if it comes back in case it was just a fluke thing?
At least on the latter 202's, the transmission was a no-maintenance thing. There is a one-use break-off cap at the end of the transmission access tube. No dip stick. You have to buy one from the dealer. From what I have read, Mercedes is back-tracking on their no-maintenance thing and now advising to change the transmission fluid. Expensive to do at the dealer. Here is how to do it yourself:
