Folks: Where is the best place to buy another "key fob" or sender as one of mine does not seem to work? New batts etc does not seem to work. Dealer wants me to pledge my next born and lot of $ to supply item in need. Thank, P.F.

The dealer is your only source for keys.

My w202 immobiliser wont work at all even thought the battery is ok. It first happened a few years back when It locked me out of the car, btw these cars are so hard to break into. Apparently It was fixed, the car started etc, so I never risked locking it again. However I'm selling the car at the moment, so I thought It would be a good idea to check it, sure enough, It doesnt work at all, no locking, no unlocking, no red/green lights etc. Potential new owners of my car have noted that they may wish to lock the car. I wonder If It's cheaper and more efficient to buy an aftermarket keyless entry kit and just don't use the Merc keypad again?

I know this is an old post but just to update........

........O.K. I had the Key recoded by an M.B. specialist for $115 AUD and proceeded to sell the car. Within 3 weeks, the new owner calls to tell me he is locked out of the car. MB told him to get new keys except the car wasn't in his name and the sale papers were locked inside the car. I told him over the phone how to break into the car which he did but the car started, no red/green lights. I miss my W202 merc already but I have to say I dont miss that dodgy key pad, apparently because of the W202 Mercedes moved away from that style, don't know weather its true or not. Oh and get this, W202 keys must be cut in Germany and sent over so they say but a W203 key minus the metal key can be made sent and programed within 3 days and they are half the price of the new ones so I found out, and they don't even need to see the car to marry the keys, this is all done over the phone.

I think If I was to buy my car back I would have the key cut on a standard key and fit an aftermarket keyless entry kit and save headaches.

Anyway as I said this is more an update on an old post but hopefully it might help someone somewhere!

Try an independent Mercedes mechanic. Mine gets my keys for me. But that might be b/c he also sells Mercedes.

Unfortunatelly It was an independant MB specialist, I dont want to hold this against them because I like them. However, I lost the key to my new one W203 and dealt direct with a Dealership, and the service was First Class and the price far less than I anticipated, I had the new key in the ignition with in 3 days, I guess the point really should be for me to ban myself around Merc keys!!!
