A couple of problems!!
A couple of problems!!
Hi everyone,
Been a while since I've posted on these boards, and I'm glad to see some new faces. As a little history, I took my Mercedes to the local MB dealership and paid $100 to get the car diagnosed. My car would stay stuck in first gear (and the RPM's wouldn't go over approx. 4000) when I pressed the gas pedal all the way down. The dealership diagnosed it and gave me a diagnosis that I needed a new Mass Air Flow unit. They also told me a couple other unrelated fixes that I would need in my car. The dealership told me it would take 2 hours for them to do, and thus it would cost around $600. After looking on the boards, I saw that many people easily did this repair; I searched online and found one for around 200 dollars and took it to the local garage and had the mechanic install it for 100 dollars. I also changed the airfilter to an STP airfilter which I purchased from autozone. These events took place approximately 2-3 weeks ago. Today as I started my car, it gave a shudder, the RPM's dropped below 1000, and the car began to stall out. Finally, it started, and I was able to drive it with no problems; however, the car repeatedly stalls out like this.
Does anyone know what the cause of this could be? A noticeable thing is that the airfilter box doesn't seem to fully close because of the shape of the STP air filter. Just to test it out, I put my OEM air filter back into the car, and the lid of the airfilter-box sealed perfectly. Could this have caused the stalling? I am turning to you guys before I go back to the stealer and give another 100 to diagnose this
.
Thank you so much!

Yes. If the airbox is not sealed properly it can cause engine stumbling problems. You need to make sure all tubing in the induction system is connected correctly without any leaks. Also check to make sure the mechanic or you didn't knock/off disconnect any of the vacuum tubes that run around the engine compartment.
You paid somebody $100 to install your MAF!?

Yea you might wanna bring that car in buddy!!
Whenever you replace the MAF you have to readapt the car (ECU) you have to either do it manually by driving the car under 2,500 RPM for about 10min this is the fast way .....or you do it with the computer DAS/WIS
other suggestions
check the air box
When you pull that MAF off there should be a big black o-ring make sure it is not kinked ripped ect... if it is tight put a very little grease on it just so you dont rip it when you reapply the sensor... GOOD LUCK
