Holding Back the Cold Tranny at a Stop

Does anyone have any ideas why my C-280 transmission wants to go so bad at a stop when it's cold and then later when it gets up to temperature, the tranny acts normal? It's like trying to hold back a thoroughbred when cold and then normal later. Transmission fluid need changing? Add more fluid perhaps? When warm, no issues with shifting, reverse, computer kicking it too hard, etc.

Thanks in advance!!!!

Warm-Up Period

I'm not 100% sure we're on the same wavelength, but there is a "Warm-Up Period" that causes delayed upshift at speeds under 31 mph with the 5 speed transmission in my '97 C230. The owner's manual says that this allows the catalytic converter to heat up to operating temperature faster.

Hope that helps!

Holding back the Tranny - 1998 C-280

I can't imagine this is normal, if fact it is a bit dangerous. Obviously the brakes will hold it back but when it's real cold, I usually take it out of gear at a stop to relieve it of its misery until it warms up. Again, once warmed up, it's not very noticeable which makes me think it is either the computer making it go or something needing some service in the tranny.

I thought I would try the network first and then drop it off at the dealer I suspect.

so what you are saying is that under 31 miles an hour your engine is revving at 4 thousand rpm? Mine does this, and i think its because i never warm the car up.

I don't have the problem of the upshift - only that it seems like the clutches on the transmission are not slipping like they should??? which makes it seem like someone is pushing on the accelerator. Again, after warmup, .5 hour to an hour or on a warm day, it doesn't do this as bad. It seems to strictly be a factor of the operating temp of the transmission.

Solution to the tranny problem???

I was changing oil today and noticed a hose connected to a metal tube coming from the tranny. I am assuming that the tranny fluid may be cooled? If so, this could be the problem as the hose is slightly leaking....I am now thinking that the tranny may be low on fluid because of this leak. Since I don't have a tranny dipstick, I can't take a look at the level. I guess I am headed to the dealer at this point. I hope the tranny can handle being low on fluid if this is the problem. Has anyone used other tranny fluid as the dealer will not be open for several days now.
