external light out indicator
I have a 1998 Mercedes C280 and the external bulb out indicator started coming on a couple of days ago. I've checked all of my external lights (even the tag lights) and don't see any that are in need of replacement. Is there something that I'm failing to check other than what can be seen by turning the lights on and checking the signal lights, brake lights and backup lights. I've also checked the high beams and they are working properly as well.

Depress brake pedal
The brake light has 2 filaments, have a helper check to see if they light up when depressing your brake.
If you have a third brake light (center) this may be the cause also.

Yes, and the switch that turns on your lights. When you turn it, pull it out also. Until it clicks twice. That means all the front lights are on and the other rear lights are illuminated. Have someone watch the rear of the car when the second click occurs.

Its also pretty simple technology, the light only comes on when the bulb is actually out. You could have a bulb with a bad filament that turns on and off when it pleases....
Is the dash light always on? or was on last week?
