Teleaid optional or standart on w202?
I have a 2000 model C280. Its got teleaid system in it. I called MB teleaid today to activate the system. They told me they dont activate the teleaid systems on vehicles older than 2005. The system on 99-05 cars are analog and at the end of this year cellular phone providers wont support analog lines, so the teleaid will be useless. There is a convertion kit for the vehicles newer than 2001 but not for 99-00. I am wondering if the teleaid was optional on w202 or standart. I purchased my car CPO about 5 years ago. I still have the window sticker and there is no option listed as teleaid on it. So I am assuming it was standart on at least 00 models. otherwise Mb should convert those to digital ones.

If I remember right, when they started installing them in 2000 you got a year's worth of basic service free and then had to pay a subscription after that. If you are annoyed that the TeleAid isn't compatible, it could have been worse. What about all those people who bought overpriced phones that were pretty much out of date as soon as the car was purchased!

i was reading something awhile ago about teleaid going out of service sometime in 2007, maybe that's why they won't activate it, check mbusa, it was somewhere in small print...
but as far as is it worth it? i wouldn't spend any $ on it...
regards

dont invest in it if you dont already have it...
on the w202, it is only available on 2000's i believe...correct me if im wrong. anyway, it is based on analog signals, so at the end of 2007, bye bye! however, i dont know that analog towers will all be phased out at once. more likely, you'll get very spotty service and spottier as time goes on.
if you own a newer C class (w203, 2001+) you can get the retrofit analog-->digital so that you can keep using the service, but mercedes has not announced (and may never will) a kit for the w202 to do the same.
