Recommend Exhaust/Tips for '94 C280
Looking to replace those stock small tailpipes with something better looking. I am NOT looking for something that makes any more noise than the stock exhaust. And I'm not looking for more power as I know it'll be negligible.
I looked into replacing just the tips and found a source in my area (L.A. Metro) that carries Lorinser tips for $430. Very pricey considering they're just the tips. Any source/price out there on AMG tips??
Evosport has Supersprint systems for around the same price. I'm just wondering about quality. Eisenmann?
I'm lost at this point and really need some good solid advice. Also, some pics of stock C280's with an aftermarket exhaust would also be VERY helpful.
Thanks!

For $430 you can buy a new exhaust...not worth it...
As for tips, I think signature line accessories (www.slaccessories.com) might sell AMG-style tips for the C280...I was thinking of going that route...
you can always buy those remus/amg-style mufflers from ebay, hack off the tips, and have them welded on the stock exhaust.

I contacted Signature Line and they don't have the tips out yet. Maybe in a couple of months the rep says...
Anyone have any other sources for tips or exhaust?

go to any muffler shop, there are plenty of selections, square, rounded, or oval, anything you want, they can cut the old ones and weld the new tips on for around $20/each.
Remember this is the tips only, not the muffler!

Why don't you want to change the muffler? I also have a C280 and changed out much of the exhaust. From the Catalytic Converter I went to 3" pipe then to an 18" glass pack and then to a Ractive free flow muffler. IT LOOKS AND SOUNDS AWESOME!!! The tip of the muffler is kind of oval shaped (like the Porshe Boxter) It fits perfect into the cut-out in the bumper. It sounds unbelievable!! It is a deep solid sound. (Unlike those stupid weedeater civics running around) It's not that loud either. After you hit about 50 mile per hour it is virtually gone. The horsepower gains are also a plus. People think I got a cat-back system from Brabus or something. The whole thing was less than $300 dollars. If you still are edgy about the sound, many exhaust shops have a variety of tips that will look great. You could probably get everything installed for less than $30

Doug,
That looks great!
Where did you get that!
I love the red and black color scheme!
But enough about the Grill King
The exhaust looks nice too.
Regards,
Don

It's on sale at Wal*Mart for $29.95. Boy can that thing grill some steaks.
.I had the exhaust done at Wolfe Performance Exhaust. It's a place here in town. The guy really knows what he's doing.
You can get the muffler from here....

It's around $150.00. If you want my setup you need to go to a muffler shop and tell them you want an 18" glasspack coming directly out of the 1st muffler. (that's the only way it will fit, we'ver tried everything.) Then from there go to the Ractive muffler which is mounted in the back, flush with the bumper. I originally did this setup without the glasspack but it was too loud at too high of speeds. Since I do a lot of traveling this got annoying. The glasspack really took off that edge and toned it down a bit. I love the sound when I start it up. It gives a noticable deep burble sound. (not like a chevy, not like a civic, more like a Porche 996 twin turbo.) I can tell a difference in power just a little bit. What really will help is an intake. It lets it suck in the air to even out the free flowing exhaust. I believe intake and exhaust go hand in hand. Each is almost worthless without the other. If you have any other questions just leave another tag. This seems to be my new home so I'm on here a lot.

The brand of the muffler is Ractive. I'm not sure is you can get that particular tip only. The muffler shop that I go to down here has a very similar one. It's a little more rounded instead of flat like mine. The problem is, you won't be able to just put that tip on there, because there isn't enough room. You would have to move the entire muffler back about six inches. It's hard to put just tips on the stock muffler because the factory tips come down off the muffler at a sharp angle. You wouldn't want the aftermarket tips going down at an angle too, it looks better if they are coming straight out the back. If there is somebody who makes tips that curve down and then straight out, that would look good. (maybe that's the $430 Lorinser tips you were talking about.) Other than that, I'm not sure of a tip that would fit over the factory tips and look good.
