slight skip & vibration at idle when cold (c280)

Hi all, i just picked up a 95 c280 with 103k on it. I like the car alot but it has a little vibration at idle with the car in park, when i shift into either drive or reverse when im stationary with my foot on the brake, the car shakes worse. If i leave it in nuetral or park, and rev it up, it does sound like a slight skip. If i drive the car for 5 minutes or so, the problems all seem to go away until i shut the car off and restart it, then the problems come right back. I changed all the coils, the wires and the plugs, no help with the vibration, but the car feels/ performs alot better. Any suggestions would be great, thanks!

bump, any ideas guys? I think i might take it to the dealer next week....I noticed the condition is only happening off of low idle, and when i rev it off low idle i get a little pop almost like a backfire. Its really hard to notice, kinda like the skip, i just wish i could figure it out!

No, i'm a used car dealer, so i picked it up at an auction. I was, however, planning on driving this one myself if i can figure it out.

Hey Rocket4dr. Might wanna think about getting your engine mount checked.

My 94 C280 had a shaking problem when stationary as well, or when I'm in park etc., but once I got my engine mount replaced, it was fine.

check the donut

sounds like you have two problems. an engine mount would usually cause shaking at speed. the donut between the drive shaft and the transmission is a frequent wear item and often the cause of most shaking, especially at idle. it still could be the engine mount, but i would check the donut first. if it is cracked or the holes have gaps between the bushing and the rubber this is your culprit.

the way you describe the rough idle when cold sounds like the mass-air sensor is going bad.

cheers,

greg
