When I put the transmission into Drive, the car ('94 C280) drives but sometimes it doesn't shift to the 2nd gear until I put it into Neutral and again back into D -the RPM goes past 3k and it's still in the first gear (it usually shifts by 2500 RPM). This is a very recent issue and I can't think of anything that could've caused it. Eventho it's happened probably twice so far I'm beginning to worry...

Any advice on why I'm experiencing this is appreciated.

Probably a sad sign that your car has finally accepted the fact that it's getting on up there. How many miles does it have? 120K?

could be several things. first, when was the last time you changed the transmission oil? second, does that model have a single/double switch? if so, with the car off, flip it back and forth a few times to clean the contacts. last, and most likely, you've got a problem with the transmission control system-go to the directly to the dealer, do not pass GO.

there are some other possibilities, but try those first. hope this helps.
