'98' c230 error 0170

Hello all, new member, great site!
I got this error " right cyl mixture adaptation reahes limit value".
I found a problem w/ a plug, code came back a week later,
I have 92k, replaced plugs, wires, coils, plugs, both o2 sensors. Cleaned map sensor, checked the entire intake, looked for vacuum leaks, newstock air filter.
Took the car on a trip 2500 miles, ran perfect, after that the code came back. Car runs great, mpg consistant for a year.
Thought I would ask before dropping off to the dealer

>> Cleaned map sensor<<

What about the MAF (mass airflow)? Have you cleaned that too? It may just be bad at this age. Do some searching of the forums for information about testing it.

0170 error

Thanks for your reply, I stand corrected, I meant MAF not MAP. I will replace the oring seal on the MAF meter when testing it as you suggest.
Also I saw one code that refered to the "DAS to control module"
That code only appeared once 6 months ago and was cleared. I can't find what DAS stands for. The car has only 90k on it.
It is strange becuase the car runs very good.
Puzzled??

Cool '98'c230 0170 error code

I cleaned the MAF sensor using a lot of cleaner as the directions say. I cleared the code, the engine was still warm, I drove a while and the fault did not come back. I started the engine when it was cold, let it idle a bit and the fault came back, so I suspect the fault is temperature sensitive. This symptom brings me to suspect the coolant temp. Sensor.
I need to look up the resistance values for a cold engine sensor value to be sure. Maybe best to just change it out? But I do like a conclusion.
Does anyone have a source for the sensor resistance values or a way to test the MAF meter.
Also does anyone know what "upper limit" refers to, too rich I suspect but just a guess.
Thanx

same code different day

I replaced th MAF meter. The car stumbles a bit for about 300 yards only when cold. Similar to what the original one did after a thourough cleaning. Then runs perfectly, no error code shows up for 2 to 3 days.
The error code shows up at low rpms, when turning off the highway for example.
I am currently checking for a vacuum leak, hose etc. I can do a smoke test on the intake but, that seems to be a last resort. There does not seem to be a temperature sensor other than the sender that I can see in a manual or find on the engine.
Any suggestions, or similar problems from anyone out there?
Thanks
Brian
