C36 vibration at idle

My apologies for starting a new thread when I should be replying to my original post 'finally got my C36'. For some reason the forum server do not accept mt reply although sent repeatedly. I have sent a test post to the test forum and it worked fine...

Thanks for the kind words, Gentlemen. The wife calls the car's color 'Dollar Green'.

I also think my 500 RPM idling speed (in 'D' with the aircon on) is quite low and might be causing my vibration problems. However, I do not know if this idle speed can be adjusted? Ideas anybody?

J Irwan, my AMG manual and the engine sticker says this car has 206 KW and 385 Nm. 0-100 km/h is stated as 6.7 secs. Top speed is limited to 250 kph.

I was wondering what are the equivant times and max speed for your 5-speed '97 C36? I ask because I have hit more than 260 km/h (as indicated on the speedo) and the speed limiter did not come on.

Here is a shot of the interior.

Bong,

Is your car is 4 speed outo or 5 speed auto...?

mine has the spec as your 206kw/385Nm

As far for 0-100km/h I never tested my self.

But here is the spec according to Road&Track magazines:

95 C36 0-60mph 6.4 sec (4 speed auto tranny, 268hp/280lb-ft, rear diff ratio :2:82:1)
97 C36 0-60mph 5.9 sec (5 speed auto tranny, 276hp/284lb-ft, rear diff ratio: 3.07:1)

Knowing you car can get more than 260km/h that must have felt pretty good

For the idle I think 500 rpm is a little bit too low, that might explains rough idle, or shaky. I think the idle can be programmed. The dealer should be able to do that.
I am not sure where mine's at, but I am sure it is above 500 rpm.
Try to have it adjusted at 700 rpm with A/C on...

Good luck

Here is a pic of mine.

Regardz,

J Irwan

Yes, the transmission is a 4-speed. I do not know of the final drive ratio but since this is a german version I would expect shorter gearing.

That's a beautiful car, J Irwan. Those orange turn signal indicator compliments the silver color. Whats your mileage now? Pretty hard to keep it down huh? I find myself hopping to the C36 even for short trips. My other cars are seriously under-utilized lately!

I see my attached pic of the interior did not make it so I will try again. Pls post one of yours too if you have one.

Thanks for the info on the idle. I will try and get the dealer to reprogram it higher.

C36 Interior pic

Even at 260+ kph it felt very stable and safe. The engine note was delicious. That was the fastest I have ever driven in my life. Yeeahh!

Here is another shot of the front seats

Cool

got a 96 c36 in the states. the idle is a bit rough when cold like right after startup, kinda rumpty rumpty uneven, but goes away after it warms up. may or may not be the same as what u feel. my dad (in c36) and i (in 1995 volvo 850 turbowagon) to sears point for the drag racing for 1/4 mile runs, roughly equivalent of the 400 m runs. we're not professional racers and with automatics, we had roughly 1 sec reaction times . slow pokes we are. anyway, the c36 ran 15.0 sec at 99 mph on the best run, but never cleared 14 sec. my wagon ran 14.9 at 94 mph on my best run. so, i was naturally surprised we had same times, even though c36 had higher trap speed. so, assuming all magazine time trials has no reaction time (correct me if i'm wrong), take a sec off the 15 sec at 99 mph, and u'd get 14 sec at 99 mph. pretty close don't u think. have fun with ur new toy.

Rough idle

Hi Steve. No, I feel the vibration on the steering wheel whenever I am in 'D' with the car stopped (and A/C on) regardless of whether the engine is cold or warmed up. Going to have the dealer reprogram the idle speed higher next time.

I understand that the cams installed by AMG for the C36 are 'horsepower' cams, i.e., the powerband is biased towards the top end. This might explain why the C36 has higher trap speed but same ET as your turbowagon. BTW, Nice car, that 850.

To race your car at the track you need to be careful and launch the car properly. Traction control must not kick in or else it will sieze up the brakes. You need to feather the accelator while holding the brake to get your car to launch. The fastest time in my C36 was 13.92 @ 107 mph. I had an cold air intake, test pipe for the track, and Y pipe dual exhaust (basically a pipe in the other side w/dual AMG tips). I hate magazines because if you know how to race you can always get much better times then posted. I have hit my speed limiter at 155 mph many times. The car is very slow from 150-155. Seems to take forever.
