need advice, my car just died suddenly in the middle of the road!!

i was travelling home from campus in my 96 c280, right after i exited the freeway the engine just died for no obvious reason!! suddenly i have no power streering and brake, and then i realise that the engine was dead. i tried starting, the car cranks but it just died again after that. the roadside assistance technician that i talked to said that it might be the fuel delivery system, cos i still have abt 5 gals in the tank. there was no warning light or anything b4 the engine died. im losing faith in my beloved c280. what do u guys think, and how much would repair cost?? pls help me

It's probably the fuel pump. It's a common problem with older MLs, so it may be for other Benzes as well. I hear it may have something to do with the quality difference between European and American gasoline, but don't quote me on that (I know there's a huge difference between diesel here and there).

It was fixed by an independent auto shop here in Hawaii...the fuel pump itself cost around 275 bucks...and the guy just replaced it along with a new fuel filter...with labor came out to be around 350 bucks...hehe

I'm sure u'll be quoted for more than 1000 bucks at the dealer so good luck to u on looking for a good honest auto shop around ur place

regardz,
