NEWBIE. got questions about a 95 c280
hello. im new to the mercedes world and i just got a couple questions about a '95 c280 im about to do a trade with.
im just wondering what are some of the main problems to look for and is the maintenance pretty easy to do it yourself? like oil changes? brake pad changes?
the car has pretty high mileage about 215,xxx..but the exterior is as mint as can be!
the owner said everything's been maintained and it should last for many more miles.
are these c280 engines reliable? any mechanical issues i should look for?
any help would be greatly appreciated and i hope to join you guys in the luxury benz world..

the m104 is a reliable engine given the proper maintenance. 215k is quite a bit, but if the car is priced accordingly, and has a very detailed service history, I wouldn't necessarily run away from it.
In general the m104 is known for problems with the original wiring harness & headgasket problems circa 100k miles. However the number of systems & wear and tear at 215k is of course going to mean more than just the norm issues.
Most of the basic maintenance is easy & straightforward, search here, or on club202 and you'll get the jist of what all is entailed.
I'm sure you'll enjoy your first MB but in general its best to wait a little, or spend a little more and find the best specimen you can at a good price

05 C240 wagon, 01 E320, 94 Miata (supercharged sold), 01 SLK 320
also has a 95 C280 with 135kmiles and counting....
current prblems:
1. SRS light on
2. Engine check light on (No.4 injector was plugged). Had it fixed but could not reset the light. Since I am still getting 24mpg did not bother to fix it (just unplug fuse 32...). Car still passed CA smog for the past 4 years....
3. Electrical light is on when head light is turned on. Could not figure out why, all the bulbs are good. I think it is the battery (6year old now)....
Normal oil changed, replaced front/rear brakes, replaced trans fluid. That is about it...
Car is pretty reliable....
