Gas door won't lock
The car is 97 C230.
I just noticed this yesterday after cleaning the car. The gas door
won't lock anymore. It may be caused by a vacuum leak but the question
is how do I find out where it is leaking?
I hope this is a simple DIY.
Thanks in advance.

Most likely the element
There is a vacuum element with a diaphram which can go bad. They are about 30 bucks. The element is located in a difficult area accessed through the rear passenger inside trunk. Check the hose connection first before replacing since it may have come loose. I attempted to fix mine but the small o-rings break free when trying to service them. The element clips onto the door lock slide must be locked into position properly.
