Cleaning rims thoroughly
Hi,
Tomorrow is supposed to be nice weather, so I am planning on giving my car a nice hand-wash and polish. The thing is, the rims have a lot of junk that's caked on. It will come off for the most part with car wash soap and water, but there is still a tarnished look to some of them. Is it safe to use a scotch-brite pad on them? I'm afraid to use any type of steel wool. I've attached pictures of the type of rims I have and the type of pad I was thinking of using. That's not my actual car in the picture, but it looks the same.
Thanks!

I wouldn't use those pads, they are like steel wool too. Use a good wheel cleaner that will loosen the brake dust and crap then evaluate the rims. Have to be careful not to scratch off the clear coat on the rim.

Those wheels are anodized, not painted. Anodizing is a chemical process that coats the aluminum with a microscopic layer of protection. The Scotch-Brite pads should not be used (on either anodized or painted wheels for that matter). The best you can do is use some mild paint polish or metal polish. If the wheels have become cloudy in certain areas the only solution is to have someone refinish them. I don't know who does that for the anodized wheels.
