95 c280 wire in trunk?

Hi guys newbie here, I just got 95 c280, It's been sitting in a body shop unfinished for some time, It cranks but no start yet... still checking it out but found a foot or so long wire (actually 9 wires) w/9 wire connector by the battery, (not fuel pump relay) that ain't plugged in to anything, can someone look in their trunk and see what it goes to? I don't think it's diagnostic, but thats why I'm asking... antenna rely, lock relay?...who knows?....sometimes stuff gets stolen off cars sitting in shops too long... thanks, cliff

maybe there was a CD player in there and someone scoffed it. The CD player has a fiber optic wire but maybe it's for the power to it?

Well, maybe, but I don't see any other evidence of mounting brackets ect. having been bolted around there,is that where the cd's are mounted from fact.? These are factory wires that are with fusebox wiring, also with no fiber opt. just skinny rectangular(black) 9 pin connector, so no chance of aftermarket stuff, I need more people to actually look in their trunks...thanks for the imput!

>>also with no fiber opt. <<

Fiber optics were not used in the 95.

correct.

OP: can you take a picture so we can get a good idea of what we're talking about here. I'll take a look (and get pics) to see what it actually is.
However, mine is a 97 c230 but I hope there wouldn't be much difference.

And this is the harness you're particularly interested in. It's the cable used
for CD changer.

good luck!

Welll....

Would i be correct in saying that theres a possiblity that the car didnt originally come with the disc changer? Or were they standard on all models of that year?

I dont know about mercedes, but i had a lincoln that had excess wires for the optional extras.

Arnt the options put into the cars after they are built?

Yes, I'd say that's possible too, (cd not being standard) especially back in '95, It's daylight now so I will go look for evidence of it having had one, but none the less the outcome is the same, Like I said ealier, from first hand experience... cars tend to lose parts when they'rer in limbo anywhere, so sometimes it's too easy to assume what I've come to think of as the norm, that whenever possible they'll be dishonesty....But thanks for pleasant reminder, that that's not always the case...cwb

Well i could be wrong, as iv seen it seems that mercedes is good about having alot of stuff come standard on their cars unlike other companies. But of course they are more expensive.

Well, I don't know, The plug in ob kinobi's pic looks like the one. but my wire is tied into the fuse box loom, but his is a 97 so maybe they moved the location of the unit if it was there...there is a button on the radio that says "cd" so who knows, There is also some yellow goop that may be under coating covering some of the plug pins that seems unlikely to have been plugged in, unless that was result of being in the bodyshop amd I don't see any brackets or places where it may have been mounted, although I did find what appears to be a power amp behind driverside trunk liner, so If some one with a '95 can disclose where their cd is mounted then perhaps I'll be able to zero in on locale, but at least I am confident that that plug has nothing to do with the car running or not...thanks guys! cliff

Well my 97 C280 has the disc changer mounted in a different place than his, mine is mounted beside the battery and i havent investigated how its hooked up.

That amp behind the liner is the amp for the interior speakers. You have the 8 speaker bose system right? I have that same amp in my trunk in the same spot.

From the trunk side of the rear deck there is 3 speakers, 2 on drivers side 1 on pass side. each door has a speaker, there also seems to be one on each end of the dash above a/c vents so I count 9 lolo...I don't see any bose insignia anywhere the only logo is mbez on the cassette door...so maybe the grilles are there but no speakers behind them? Do you mean that the cd is down in the well on passenger side? door facing up? or across well with door towards inside of trunk?....thanks, cliff

Ok, I finally found some literature on the cars stereo, they don't put anything in main owners manual because they probably offered to many systems...My radio maual (a slim little booklet hidden behind the tire warrenty)says nothing about bose, but calls the mb stereo "cd capable" and says if you have one it was dealer installed, that's why the different locations you guys have...they do not talk about speakers in this manual so when I get the battery back in it I'll have to turn it on and listen to see whats mak'in noise....I got a cd changer(almost new) from the era and will check to see if the plug is unversal for all these, because dealer installed may mean whatever brand changer they can get... does your changer say bose or m.b. on it? I bet everyone who's got one has a different brand...thanks cliff

The 3 speakers in the rear deck, 2 of them are woofers and the one facing inside the trunk is a passive speaker (wont produce sound). And the 2 speakers in the dash should be working, those are just tweeters. You have to really put your hear to them depending on how loud it is to hear em.

My disc changer says MB on it, although im sure any brand changer should work if it has the right cables. And yes my changer is placed kinda down in the in the well with the door facing up. Even has a nice pretty MB cover for it that i didnt find until i looked under the changer.

Iv seen pictures of some mercedes with the changer placed inside the glove box, which i would love to have mine there for easy access but i was really disappointed as how small the glove box is, wont even fit gloves in it with the manual in there!
