C230 Check Engine/O2 Sensor Problem
Hello everyone,
Got a 98 C230 with the check engine light going on for the past week.
The readings from the scanner show bad 02 Sensor, Bank 1 Sensor 1. Had it replaced immediately and about 50 miles later the check engine light came back on. Since they used a standard 02 sensor that fits most cars, my mechanic figured the Mercedes would be more particular, so we ordered a Bosch 02 sensor and had that installed. Again, check engine light was reset and 50 miles later the check engine light is on again, with the same reading; 02 Sensor bank 1 sensor 1. I've been back to my mechanic 3 times, and we're just about lost as to what the problem could be. The readings on the scanner show good numbers (for acceleration/air flow.) But every time we reset it, 50 miles later it comes on. It's definitely bank 1 sensor 1 that has been replaced... twice now. There are no gas caps off.
Would definitely appreciate any help or advice!
Thanks!

What specific code did your scanner display? Many things can cause an O2 sensor fault, check out http://www.engine-light-help.com/oxy...sor-codes.html
to get a better understanding of check engine, dtc, error code lights.

Did you ever get this fixed?
Hello,
I am a new member having the same problem with my 1997 C230. Did you ever figure out what caused your problem?

My vote on MAF could start going bad. Try cleaning your MAF Sensor using MAF Cleaner and reset the light and see if that helps for a while. If it does, I would change MAF. Make sure you buy original MAF from Bosch not from Aftermarket if you end up changing MAF. Cost of MAF is around $90 ( I would just replace insert of MAF from Amazon instead of entire MAF saves you $20).
