2000 C280 Stalling at Idle
Presently showing P0305(cylinder #5 misfire) which is cyl 5?
History - 3 weeks ago, car dies and won't restart, no codes. Conferred with Marty at Just Answers; he said it was crankshaft position sensor, changed it and he was right. Car runs fine.
1 week ago, right front headlight burns out, change it and remove air cleaner hood and attachment to MAF sensor in process; next day car runs rough, stalls when giving it gas at low engine speed. Code was a P0110(I think that was it but definitely MAF) Put in a EBAY $99 special, stalling when giving gas at low speed disappears, MAF code gone but idle hunts and stalls. Drive it for 50 miles, hunting disappears(computer is learning?) but occaisional stalling at idle but improving.
Today I disconnected the MAF sensor and the car ran better but did stall once.
Any thoughts. Car has 140k, original plugs, wires, etc. (I know plugs need changing.) I sure miss the simplicity of the older cars.

Mine is having a very similar problem. When I switch to drive or reverse my RPM's drop to nearly 300rpm. Then when I hit the accelerator the car runs even rougher and moves slower than when it is idling in gear. So the MAF sensor should fix this? And I believe that cylinder 5 is the 2nd from the back.

Believe me I am no expert; I wish someone with more knowledge than me would post but... try disconnecting your MAF sensor connector and drive it briefly. I believe the car defaults on a set program. If it improves, it may be the MAF. I am going to buy a OEM Bosch MAF, I think the aftermarket is chit.
