general question about a 98 model...
Hi guys,
Just saying hi from the CLK forum. Just wondering if the 98 models had any serious problems or quirks that should be looked into. A friend of mine just bought one. You probably get these questions all the time, as we do on the CLK forum, but any answers/comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys..

98 is actually the starting point for the C to get most of its quirks out.
However, there are some things that you should be aware of.
Mercedes had an official voluntary recall of its batteries for 98-00 vehicles. aparently the batteries died out faster then normal, and the normal maitenence of the battery to keep its electrolyte levels sufficient, were not accurate as to what was written in the manual.
Aside from that I think some common problems you might run into is an air mass meter going bad... headgasket going at 100k... lots of brake dust from braking, some other stuff, I cant remember it all right now.
hope this helps some though.

My parent own a CLk 430 and a S55...i own a 1998 C230 and brake dust is a common issue on all those cars especially the CLk. This is a common issue since mercedes uses soft brake pads and high friction brakes. This gives you smooth yet powerful breaking, which comes at a cost......brake dust.
