Sunroof Problem

My sunroof on my 97 C280 will only move backwards about eight inches and then stop. Any clue to why its doing this?
Thanks!

Needs to be resynched. Put the key in the ignition to the "on" position, but no need to turn it on. Push and hold the sunroof button so the sunroof tilts up, and hold that position without letting go for 10-15 seconds. Voila, everything should be done.

Tried it. Turned key to no. 2 position and held sunroof button in tilt up position. Still the same. Sunroof backs up about eight inches then stops.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Read the manual, it should say the same thing.

If not, it's probably not a synch problem, and maybe you got some **** stuck in there lol

you might have a bent spring from the deflector that prevents it from sliding back

You may want to disassemble it and lube the parts. As our cars age the sunroof can fail due to friction. Of course it's better to lube the rails and pivot points regularly, I do mine once a year, rather than to have to deal with it once it begins to stick.

haven't done any of that in the 12 years ive owned my c230 lol; luckily no problems other than resynching have occurred.

Hehe, well like any moving part especially one without bearings, etc. it's a good idea to do some basic preventative maintenance. The good news is now that you have the information you may never have a sunroof problem. The mono-wiper mechanism is another of those easy-to-do yourself lube jobs that can save you lots of cash down the road, but that's another thread.
