any hope for C230?
Hello, this is my first msg here, and I have a fairly simple question:
I recently got a chance to buy 1998 C230 with 53k miles on it, it belonged to a member of my family, so I know they took good care of it...
my question is: Is there any hope for it as far as performance?
The car feels much stronger then most cars with only 147HP, but still 10 sec 0-60 is horrible....
If you guys have any info on possibly supercharging it, that would be great (I thought Kleemann made something but I couldn't find anything specific of their site).... my other option is to look for C230K (I have upto 25k to spend on the car)
I'd greatly apreciate any input on this! as I have some experience working on cars, but never touched a benz before (worked on Toyotas, Acuras and V8 Mustangs).
btw the board is great!

97 audi quattro 1.8T? umm I don't think so, and besides 25k for that?! new 2003 1.8T FWD starts at like 25k, so if I got an audi it would be alot newer then 97...
I personally do not want audi, I just like the C-class, plus there are tons of moded out audi's, benzs are a different story.
I'm not looking for super fast or the easist to mod, I like benzs and I want it to be more or less unique. Personally, aside from things like Brabus and Loringer (forgive me if I misspelled here) and such "pre-made" tuner benzs, I have yet to see one heavelly moded in person (granted did not go to any shows yet), but for where I live, that would be one of very few ones.
Besides audi is kinda boring in my opinion, I mean for power just call APR and get their stage III+ (300+ HP) for your turbo, then you have so much to choose from for suspention (I happen to live 10 mins from Neuspeed), tons of bodykits (I'd go for S4 look-alike), the list goes on and on and on.... and there are tons of them here, so one thing you missout on is true uniqueness...
btw anyone know where eurotuner got the 240hp number for Luwin's car? as far as they wrote he's got pulley, chip, exhaust maybe something else... so is it true that it's so easy to get power out of the C230k? I mean 55hp from basic mods is NICE!

Undoubtedly there are a host of much better cars to tune for $25K than a C220.
That said- KLEEMANN does make a 2.0 and 2.2 4 cylinder SC system in EU. It is not imported to the USA.
Mosselmann used to (still does?) make a 4 cylinder turbo system- you basically had to re-make it from the parts they sent you- but you could make some serious power. I have seen a few 300hp 4 cylinders.
Check out: http://www.mbautowerks.com
Donnie has a 400hp 190 16V- custom turbo and TEC3 engine management. You could easily build this for your price target and have money left over.

well I haven't bought the car yet...
so from what I see it's largely a lost cause right now?
hmm what about SLK230K? I don't believe much has changed over the years (only thing I've noticed was the shifter for tranny in auto and some interior revisions, maybe minor body changes)...
thnx for the info!
oh and Kleemann, myself and people I'm in contact routinely fly to Europe (Russia, England, Germany and Austria), so getting the system which was/is only availible in Europe would also be an option.

2008 SLK-280
You live 10 minutes from Neuspeed? That's funny, I live 5 minutes from APR. Instead of SLK 230, I'd spring for SLK320. It's got a bigger engine and more standard features. I don't think you've got the wrong car, you just have to try harder to find stuff for it.

Audi 80 Quattro (with a couple of modifications)
I agree with DougandhisC280, get the SLK320. Plus if MB is going to come out with the new style SLK it will more than likely drop the retail price of the older body style SLK and make it cheaper to get into.

RUS,
Buy my loaded 99 C230K-Sport for $16k, add $4k worth of pullys, exhaust, and chip, and consider yourself $5k richer!
Plus, enjoy a nice springtime drive from sunny Boston back to your house.
