C280 1996 Coil problem- loosing spark to #1
Can anybody tell me what can cause this? On my C280 straight 6 1996 the third coil (on #6) dies to #1. I replaced it twice, but after a few days this happens again. I tested the coil by removing it from #6 and #1 plugs, and adding loose plugs to it. I earthed the plugs to the engine and cranked it. The result is that only #6 sparks and #1 is dead. Thus only half the coil is working. I have never seen that only half the coil could work.

I have a similar problem and have tested the coils and they are all working well but no spark from rear of the three coils I presume this is because no 12v feed to the coil. I am going to check out the low tension side and trace the fault back from there but have seen little information on the net about this. The wiring seems to be in very good condition but could be breaking down in the engine harness. The center four cylinders are firing well but 1 and 6 and dead with no spark. This was intermittent but now a permanent fault.
Kleinkak Did you find out what was wrong or anyone out there have any ideas?

Wire harness - wire insulation probably all cracked and deteriorated. Check the individual wires inside the loom.

Yes I am sure it is a fault with either the wiring or the control unit but the wiring looks like new with no fading or deterioration so I am not happy starting cutting it up and rewiring it. The fault is intermittent but moving the wiring does not seem to affect it. So could it be the control unit or another sensor somewhere I wonder? But then again it is most likely the wiring even though it looks good. I think I will cut into it this evening a little more.
